How to make a booking

Welcome to the booking guide for the electron probe facility. This step-by-step guide will walk you through the process of reserving instrument time, ensuring you have all the information needed to submit your request smoothly and efficiently. Whether you’re a new user or returning researcher, these instructions will help you navigate the booking process with ease and get the most out of your time in the lab.

Once you have submitted all the required information, we will provide you with a detailed quote. Upon your approval, we will confirm and secure your booking, ensuring your time on the electron probe is reserved and ready for your project. This process helps us deliver accurate cost estimates and efficient scheduling tailored to your needs.

Step 1: Make sure you know the answers to the following questions

This information will be needed to complete the next step and booking form:​

  1. What minerals do you plan to analyse?

  2. Do you want spot analyses or maps or both?

  3. If maps are needed - what is the grain size?

  4. Are there specific elements of interest within these minerals?

  5. How many analysis spots do you require per grain?

  6. How many grains per sample will you be analysing?

  7. How many samples do you intend to submit?

  8. What kind of samples do you have? (i.e., thin sections or polished round mounts)

Step 2: Download booking form

Complete the form and return it to: ​​

Step 3: Quote, approval, and booking

After reviewing the completed booking form, you will be issued with a quote. Once you approve the quote, please issue a purchase order (PO) and we will then schedule a suitable time slot for your work.*

​

Please note quotes are estimates only and the final invoice will be adjusted to the actual hours used. Any hours needed over and above the original quote will need approval by the user.

We highly encourage all users to visit the lab in person, as hands-on involvement typically leads to the best data quality and the most efficient analysis process.

​

*Scheduling probe time will not be done until we receive a PO.
