Karoo basalts - Zimbabwe
In March 2023, my colleague Professor Emese Bordy and I went to Zimbabwe to sample new drill core through the entire sequence of the Karoo Supergroup in the Nyamandlovu area. a region that has little rock exposures. These cores gave us a wonderful opportunity to samples rocks through the entire Karoo stratigraphy of the region for the first time. The project falls under a broader research theme on the petrogenesis of Large Igneous Provinces
