Karoo basalts - Zimbabwe

In March 2023, my colleague Professor Emese Bordy and I went to Zimbabwe to sample new drill core through the entire sequence of the Karoo Supergroup in the Nyamandlovu area. a region that has little rock exposures. These cores gave us a wonderful opportunity to samples rocks through the entire Karoo stratigraphy of the region for the first time. The project falls under a broader research theme on the petrogenesis of Large Igneous Provinces

Kareevlei diamond mine

The TAPP research group has several projects based at the Kareevlei diamond mine and in collaboration with Blue Rock Diamonds. In 2022, we went to visit the mine just west of Kimberley to collect samples for the research projects of Zuko Qashani and Anele Joni.
